
Club News
1. Maureen McBeath, President of Sunshine Toastmasters is also the Area Governor for Area 73. Maureen is presently visiting all of the clubs in our area and sharing her view of Toastmasters new slogan, "Toastmasters, where leaders are made."
2. Margaret Page, a member of our club, is now the L.G. of Education and Training for District 21. A huge job and one she has plunged herself into with great energy.
3. Beachcombers
Toastmasters Club will be the Advanced club for Sunshine Coast Toastmaster
members who have completed their CC in the TI program. Meetings are held
the 1st Friday of each month at the Davis Bay Hall, they are also adding an evening meeting on the third Thursday of each month. Cathie Roy, a member of Sunshine Toastmasters, is the President of the Beachcombers Club and invites all of those with their CL to join the advanced program.
4. Toastmasters International has been rebranded and also has a new slogan: Toastmasters, Where Leaders are Made. This is a very exciting time for Toastmasters around the world. We are expanding our programs and our horizons.
5. Maureen McBeath will be presenting the Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program to the Leadership class at Chatelech Secondary School this Fall. We really are taking the new motto seriously and looking at ways of extend our reach to the young people in the community. She will also be continuing her work with the Grade 6 and 7 students at West Sechelt School. To date over 100 students have received and practised Public Speaking skills through the school visits, and by the end of this current school year she hopes to have worked with another 100 students. Imagine 200 of the students at Chat will have been exposed to our programs and experienced public speaking!
In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., forming a club to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members. The group took the name Toastmasters. We are a local chapter of Toastmasters International.
Today, Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking abilities through local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests. Toastmasters International includes more than 199,000 men and women in more than 9,300 clubs in more than 70 countries.
Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from our practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, Toastmasters can help you do it better. You'll learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason you areto become better communicators.
At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical Toastmasters club is made up of 20 to 30 people who meet once a week for about an hour. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation.
